Animal Surrender Service Disrupted
Due to Unexpected Surge, Animal Shelter Closes Intake
Urgent Call to Action: Do Not Bring Animals Without Prior Phone Call
Attention all animal owners: Harris County Animal Shelter is experiencing an overwhelming surge in animal surrenders, forcing the shelter to temporarily close animal intake through the weekend. Do not attempt to surrender an animal in person without first contacting the shelter at 281-999-3191.
The Veterinary Public Health (VPH) Division is working diligently to address the situation and ensure the safety and well-being of the animals in our care. We understand that this closure may cause inconvenience, but we urge all residents to follow these instructions carefully.
If you absolutely must surrender an animal, please do not bring it to the shelter without calling first. We have a long wait time, and we need to ensure that the animal is accepted before coming to the facility. We will provide updates on the situation and the reopening of animal intake services as soon as possible.
